Project Officer – ScientiFic

The Unit is mostly dedicated to post-irradiation examination (PIE) and studies of fuels and compounds, applied to radioactive waste management, advanced fuels safety, closed cycle studies, and physical properties of irradiated fuels covering normal and accident conditions in support of EU policies for nuclear safety. The unit operates JRC Karlsruhe’s hot cells used for macroscopic and microscopic analyses of irradiated fuel rods and segments and acting as hub for sample preparation and handling of irradiated compounds, in synergy with other laboratories and in the context of EU Joint Programming and collaborative programmes.

EMIRUM 2025

We are pleased to inform you that the next EMIR&A user’s meeting, EMIRUM, will take place at LP2iB, Gradignan, France, December 8th and 9th, 2025.
As EMIR&A users, you are invited to present the results obtained using EMIR&A facilities.

Abstracts must be submitted by November 10.

EMIRUM 2025 will be organized around several one- to two-hour sessions:
• A flash platform session with highlights
• A user session
• A student session. On this occasion, a prize will be awarded for the best student oral presentation.
• A technical session, in French, during which platform staff members will present innovations and/or technical solutions (vacuum, cryogenics, electronics, control, etc.).
• Poster sessions will be organized during coffee breaks and discussion times.
• A tour of the AIFIRA facilities will be organized on Tuesday afternoon. On Monday evening, the EMIRUM organizing committee will invite all participants to a dinner in Bordeaux.

EMIR&A Call for proposal 2026 is now Open

Dear all,
We are pleased to announce that the call for proposals for EMIR&A experiments for the year 2026 will be open from September 15 to October 20, 2025. You can submit a proposal using your personal user space on https://emira.in2p3.fr/.
You can now contact the platform(s) on which you plan to submit an application. If you wish to continue an experiment, you will be asked to provide a report on the experiment already carried out.
Please note that EMIR&A will be organizing its EMIRUM workshop on December 8 and 9, 2025, at LP2I in Bordeaux. Save the date now! Registration will open at the end of September.

EMIR&A is composed of 15 accelerators, distributed over 11 platforms located on 6 sites. Over the 2017-2020 period, EMIR&A users come on average for 2/3 from French laboratories and for 1/3 from foreign laboratories.
